Two weeks removed from devastating tornadoes that swept through Central Texas, the Round Rock Cares charitable fund is now accepting applications for assistance from property owners affected by storm damage.

Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan and Greater Round Rock Community Foundation Chair Nyle Maxwell announced the initiative on March 25, to assist Round Rock citizens directly affected by the severe weather event. Since that time, the initiative has raised more than $346,000.

“On this two-week anniversary of the tornado, many families are still dealing with the long-term impacts of the damage,” Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan said. “While cleanup efforts are largely coming to a close, we must not forget our neighbors as they begin to rebuild.”

Preliminary assessments indicated that the tornado caused more than an estimated $32 million in damage to 680 residential structures in Round Rock. Of those, 13 were “destroyed” and 93 sustained “major damage.”

Applicants must reside in a home or have a business with damage in tornado-impacted areas, including:

-Kensington
-Windy Terrace
-Greenlawn Place
-Windy Park
-Turtle Creek
-South Creek
-Concord at Brushy Creek
-Forest Bluff

The application is available in English and Spanish at rrcommunityfoundation.org.  Round Rock Cares is a charitable fund, managed by the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation. Those wishing to contribute to the fund can do so at rrcommunityfoundation.org.

“The Greater Round Rock Community Foundation is proud to be part of this effort and have the opportunity to manage the Round Rock Cares Fund,” said Nyle Maxwell, Chairman of the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation. “But we can’t do it alone – we need the public as a partner too. We ask the citizens of Round Rock to step up to support their neighbors.”

April 5 is also Opening Day for the Round Rock Express baseball season.  To further assist those with storm damage, $5 from all tickets purchased for Tuesday’s game using the promo code “RRStrong” will be donated to the Round Rock Cares fund.
