Austin’s Proposed 2023 Budget to be Unveiled Friday

Austin City Hall

It’s budget season across Central Texas and one of the more anticipated spending plans is at Austin City Hall where it’s still unclear how much the City of Austin may spend next year.  For 2022, the city’s budget is above $4.5-billion.  It’s widely expected the city’s spending will top $5-billion next year.

City Manager Spencer Cronk will deliver the budget proposal on Friday, July 15.

The weeks following the presentation will provide time for public input and budget work sessions, the city says. The Austin City Council will have the opportunity to review the proposal and may initiate amendments before final adoption, which is scheduled to begin on August 17.

Fiscal Year 2022-23 will begin on October 1, 2022.

The budget adoption timeline:

July 15              City Manager’s Proposed Budget Presentation to Council
July 27              First Community Budget Input Meeting
August 2            Second Community Budget Input Meeting
August 9            Council Budget Work Session
August 11          Council Budget Work Session
August 17          Budget and Tax Rate Adoption by Council
