Kaitlin Armstrong remains in the Travis County Jail following her recent capture.  She’s accused of shooting and killing professional cyclist Moriah Wilson at a home in East Austin in May.  She then disappeared days after being questioned by Austin Police, touching off a 43 day multi-agency hunt that ended at a hostel in Costa Rica.

Armstrong was brought back to the United States and booked into the Harris County Jail, then transferred back to Austin.

“The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force contacted the United States Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Texas, here in the Austin Division, to obtain a warrant on Armstrong for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution,” said Brandon Filla with the U.S. Marshals Office.

It’s that charge that has now been dropped by a federal judge, who has dismissed it without prejudice.  Doing so will allow federal prosecutors to add that charge back if they deem it necessary down the road.

Armstrong is believed to have killed Wilson in a bout of jealousy.  Reports say Wilson went swimming with Armstrong’s boyfriend, Colin Strickland, just hours before she was shot to death.  Home surveillance video captured a Jeep Grand Cherokee resembling the one owned by Armstrong driving past the home where Wilson’s body was found.  In the days that followed, Armstrong’s Jeep was located at a CarMax dealership in South Austin after she reportedly sold it for $12,200 one day before flying out of Austin.

It’s believed Armstrong had been planning to begin teaching yoga in Costa Rica.  She was found with an altered appearance including dyed hair and what some have speculated to be plastic surgery.  A $6400 cosmetic surgery bill was found among her belongings but it has not been officially confirmed whether she actually had surgery performed while she was on the run.

Armstrong remains in jail with a $3.5-million bond.
