On. Monday, the Los Angeles Rams agreed on a one-year deal with veteran safety John Johnson III, pending a physical. Johnson, 27, was expected to receive a contract for about $1.08 million. He has been a free agent since the Cleveland Browns released him in March.
Johnson, a Rams third-round pick in 2017 and starter from 2017 to 2020, was a key player in the Rams first Super Bowl appearance five years ago under coach Sean McVay. He is vividly remembered for his interception in overtime in the NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints in the 2018 playoffs, which set up a game-winning field goal that sent the Rams to Super Bowl LIII.
In March 2021, the Browns signed Johnson to a three-year contract that included $24 million in guarantees. Johnson intercepted four passes in two seasons with the Browns.
