A crew of volunteers led by District 6 Austin Council Member Mackenzie Kelly gathered on Saturday for a community cleanup initiative at a homeless camp off of Lake Creek Parkway. The cleanup effort focused on an easement and trail area owned by the Lake Creek Park Homeowners Association.

According to Kelly’s office, the Lake Creek Park HOA requested Kelly’s support last month in addressing the site, which is on their private property. In response, Kelly organized a collaborative effort involving local volunteers, safety personnel, community organizations, and tech partners to ensure cleanup process could proceed safely and securely.

“I am committed to addressing community needs and enhancing the quality of life for all residents in District 6,” said Councilwoman Mackenzie Kelly. “This cleanup is not just about beautification and restoring the site, but also about the community coming together and responsibly stewarding our environment. It represents a collaborative effort between property owners, community volunteers, local government, and tech innovators.”

Roughly 2.5 tons of trash and debris was hauled out of the camp.
