U.S. Senator John Cornyn files a new bill in response to Texas mass shootings

Texas Senior Senator John Cornyn continues to push new gun legislation that he drafted in response to the recent mass shootings in Texas.

Cornyn’s bill filed last week is aptly referred to as The Response Act and is “A direct answer to calls to action from victims and families I’ve heard from west Texas and El Paso.”

Cornyn laid out the bill, “The most significant part of this, which speaks directly to the desire to have more background checks, is that we would target unlicensed firearms dealers like the person in Lubbock who sold the Midland Odessa shooter his weapon without a background check.”

The bill also has an online component, and Cornyn said “It would expand the scope of what internet service providers and social media platforms can share with law enforcement to help stop an act of mass violence.”

Opponent’s believe the bill doesn’t go far enough in plugging all the loopholes in the background check system.
