A new bill to help stop mass shootings is filed by Texas US Senator John Cornyn.

Cornyn

Cornyn and several of his Senate colleagues is sponsoring the RESPONSE Act which is designed to give law enforcement better tools to prevent mass shootings and increase mental health treatment resources. Cornyn said the biggest part of this bill deals with getting rid of unlicensed firearm dealers and making sure those that want to sell firearms, get the appropriate licenses and background checks. The RESPONSE Act would also increase funding for mental health crisis intervention, outpatient treatment, criminal justice mental health and expanding the mental health workforce.

The bill encourages internet service providers to better collaborate with law enforcement and expands resources for mental health treatment.

The bill would also help expedite the death penalty for terrorist mass violence.
