Since June 1, nearly 2000 calls have been made to 311 directly related to homelessness. Police union president Ken Casaday says 311 calls are up 300-percent. Assistant city Manager Rodney Gonzalez said you can now call that new homeless hotline. Gonzalez also said it will be a more efficient way to got those concerns addressed. It’s also a hotline which can be used by someone who is homeless to request help, or simply get information to start the process of getting into support services.
By calling 512-972-HOME, Gonzalez said not only you can report a safety issue or concern about a person in need, but it can also be used by the homeless themselves to call for help.
