A Lockhart police officer has been arrested over allegations that he stole prescription drugs from Lockhart Junior High School where he had previously served as a school resource officer.
Chad Corbitt was arrested on October 11. According to officials, Corbitt was seen on surveillance video wearing civilian clothing and using his SRO key to enter the school’s medical clinic on Saturday, October 5. He allegedly stole a controlled substance while inside. Authorities were alerted the following Monday when the school nurse reported missing 30 pills from the inventory.
Corbitt was placed on restricted duty and resigned days later. The school has since assigned a new SRO to the campus.
Corbitt is charged with theft of a controlled substance. No other teachers, staff members, or students are believed to have been involved in the alleged theft.
