Austin's Gun Violence Task Force looks for hard data on gun crimes

Depending on the side of town, Austin’s rate of gun violence has either gone down, or up.  Or has it?  That’s what the Gun Violence Task really wants to nail down.  Public Safety Commissioner Ed Scruggs said what we do know is that Austin’s overall rate of gun violence isn’t on par with other Texas cities. Scruggs says the end goal is for Austin to generate new ideas for limiting gun violence, and becoming a model for other cities across the nation.

But you might hear one day gun crimes are down in one area, and the next hear it’s up in the Entertainment District.  Scruggs said having this hard data can lead the city to new recommendations on mitigating gun crimes even further.
