Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody Blasts Mayor Adler on Homelessness

Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody and Homeless Man Tom

  • Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody took to Twitter yesterday to express his concerns over the growing homelessness problem in Austin
  • In the video, Sheriff Chody is seen with a homeless man named Tom who was camping near Chody’s neighborhood on Avery Ranch Boulevard and West Parmer Lane
  • Chody states Tom is a veteran who does not do drugs but has a criminal history
  • He blames Mayor Adler in the video for the laws in Austin regarding the homeless and states, “The laws you created are causing issues, not just for me, but for people like Tom.”
  • He says Mayor Adler’s decisions are affecting him and his family
  • Chody also says the taxpayers in Williamson County don’t want to see this and that he is lucky he encountered someone like Tom but asks what happens when the next time there is a drug addict or someone who doesn’t want help who is camping in his neighborhood
  • Towards the end of the video, Chody thanks Governor Greg Abbott for “putting Mayor Adler on notice”, referring to a letter Abbott wrote where he gave Mayor Adler a deadline of Nov. 1 to get the homeless problems together or else he will send the Department of Public Safety to make changes
