This week, a coalition called ‘Transit for Austin’ called on the city to invest billions into an all-electric system of public transportation, including buses and rail. It’s widely expected the city council will call for a bond election next November, which could be around $1-billion.
Roger Faulk with the Travis County Taxpayers Union thinks one billion would barely make a dent, but he’s critical of any plan using old technology for new solutions, likening it to a landline in the iPhone era.
As for improving mobility, Falk said trains would have the opposite effect, causing lines of cars to stop every 15-30 minutes to let a train pass on a major road like Lamar.
