- A new group called Transit for Austin has formed comprising of over 50 organizations including Austin Community College and Environment Texas
- The group is looking to have a bond placed on the ballot for the November 2020 election
- The bond would pay for bus, rail and transit lines
- A previous call for a $600 million bond for transit failed in 2014 that would have cost a $200,000 home owner an extra $217 a year
- The group plans to ask Austinites what they want in terms of transit to come up with a plan and how much the bond will cost
- Although a number has not yet been set, the new plan is projected to be much more expensive than the 2014 proposal
- Transit for Austin leaders, however, believe Austin voters will pay if the plan improves their lives
- Austin voters approved a $720 million mobility bond in 2016 to which the new plan will be added
- A work session between Capital Metro and Austin City Council to present different options for the bond is planned for October 30th
