Taxes going up in Travis County after Commissioners approve new budget

Travis County Sign

Travis County Commissioners unanimously approve their new budget and a tax hike today.

The $1.2 billion dollar budget is eleven percent bigger than last year’s. Commissioners approved an 8 percent tax hike before the new rollback rate takes effect. That means your average tax bill will likely go up $126 next year. Commissioners gave themselves a 14 percent raise again and gave staff a three percent raise… but only gave county law enforcement a step increase, far less than the three percent they wanted. Central Health get $291 million out of the budget while $7.8 million is set aside for road repairs.
