Debate Continues as Vote on Sex Ed Curriculum Looms Closer

The Austin School District is planning to take a vote next month on changes to its sex ed curriculum.

Opponents like former AISD teacher Caryl Ayala with Concerned Parents of Texas say the changes do not reflect the values of a traditional Hispanic family.

“I am offended that this school district is grooming 46,000 Hispanic children, the majority of the student population” says Ayula.

The changes aren’t without support though, from parents like Belynda Montgomery who tells the Austin-American Statesman the opposition to the changes doesn’t make sense.

“Why would we educate so thoroughly about everything else in the world but not thoroughly educate kids about their body?” asks Montgomery.

The board will vote on changes made to the curriculum for grades 3-8 next month at the earliest.
