- Texas Department of Transportation will clean up homeless camps located under overpasses today
- They plan to target seventeen locations along I-35, US 183 and SH 71 in Austin
- Governor Greg Abbott had set a November 1 deadline for Austin to address the growing homeless problem
- Signs were posted last week to warn those living under those overpasses that cleanup would be conducted today by TxDOT
- Officials at Austin Public Works say people will not be removed from the camps, just the debris
- If any personal property is collected during the cleanup, TxDOT will store it at a location for 30 days for pickup
- TxDOT employees will be joined by advocates for the homeless to help direct people experiencing homelessness to services they may need
- Reports have speculated this will be a onetime effort on the part of TxDOT but officials have hinted this will be a weekly procedure
