Texas has more uninsured children than any other state. The numbers come from Georgetown University and find Texas accounts for more than 20{8827073635d838488fa0ee272ea56f78a08ac3498872dc88f518d22094382752} of those cases. Joan Alker with Children’s Health says Texas has more than twice the national average. She said, “there are some families, latino families, where we’re seeing big increases. We think that this is…families that are scared to interact with the government right now.” Nationwide, the number of kids without insurance increased by 400-thousand between 2016 and 2018. Five Texas counties rank in the top ten in the nation for uninsured kids.
Of the top ten least-insured counties in the country, five of them are in Texas.
