4. SAFETY CONCERNS GROW FROM MASS VIOLENCE COMMITTEE
Multiple threats against members of the State House Mass Violence Prevention Committee has the Vice Chair wary of holding field hearings around the State. State Rep Poncho Nevarez says they used to blow off threats like the ones against his colleagues but in the current climate they can’t take them lightly.
“We should not leave Austin to travel the state. We need to be in Austin because of securtiy reasons,” He says. “It’s easier to keep us secure in Austin, and keep people that go to the meetings secure in Austin.”
Two Republican members received threats last week from Gun Rights supporters. The committee has scheduled hearings in Amarillo, Dallas, El Paso, Houston and Odessa.
