1. IRAN’S SUPREME LEADER RULES OUT TALKS WITH AMERICA

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says that “there will be no talks with the U.S. at any level” – ending speculation about a possible U.S.-Iran meeting at the U.N. later this month.

2. PURDUE PHARMA GETS ITS DAY IN COURT

The OxyContin maker filed for bankruptcy and negotiated a potential multi-billion dollar settlement to resolve thousands of lawsuits.

3. FAMILY SLAMS LIGHT SENTENCE IN STREET RACING DEATHS

Hayden Hammer, the man accused of killing two young boys in a Cedar Park street racing crash last year, has been sentenced to seven years in prison and a decade of probation.  Tansy Silva, whose 8-year-old son was one of the boys who died, says the punishment is an insult and sends a very bad message.

“Racing on a highway and causing serious bodily injuriy or deaht is okay, as long as it’s not their children,” Silva says.
 
A 1-year-old boy was also killed, and his mother was left with life-long injuries.  Hammer had been facing 20-years in prison.  The driver of another vehicle involved is still awaiting trial.

4. NEW TAX RATE FOR ACC DISTRICT

Austin Community College has adopted its tax rate for the new fiscal year of a little more than 10-cents per $100 of taxable value…That’s slightly lower than the rate that was proposed last month.  The ACC District also offers a $5000 homestead exemption, plus a $160,000 exemption for seniors and those with disabilities.
