Questions remain over how best to fund Austin’s new Homeless Strategy Office:
Lori Pampilo Harris will be paid $155,000 for her role some have already dubbed the “homeless czar.” But while some of the council want Harris herself to help decide how much money her office should be budgeted, council member Kathie Tovo worries that could throw a wrench in programs already underway.
Councilmember Alison Alter thinks taking at least a million dollars away from the Housing Trust Fund might work, despite it being a vital component to Austin’s battle against homelessness.
