Austin Mayor Steve Adler has ruffled a lot of feathers at the police department after calling this week on the public to send him badge numbers of any officer heard saying they can’t properly enforce the law under the city’s new homeless ordinance.  Police union president Ken Casaday the homeless situation has not gotten better, almost like a light was switched on right after the vote, making the homeless much more emboldened.

Despite a call to the public from Mayor Steve Adler to send him badge numbers, the Austin Police Association says it will not hand over any numbers to him.

In written response to the mayor, Casaday said Adler is blaming hard working taxpayers on a problem his council created.  The union said his call for badge numbers could easily be perceived as a threat to police directly from the mayor’s office.
