4. RESTRICTIONS PROPOSED FOR HOMELESS CAMPING

As complaints continue over new homeless camps encroaching on sidewalks and other walkways, one of the City of Austin’s ideas may be to impose restrictions similar to dockless scooter regulations, which require there to be at least three feet of space for pedestrians.

Another idea is to model restrictions after Berkeley, California, which limits encampments to no more than nine square feet of space.

5. DRUNK DRIVER HITS, INJURES APD OFFICER

An Austin police officer is recovering after being hit by an alleged drunk driver.

Police say officer Abel Garcia had his emergency light flashing on his motorcycle while working along the side of I-35 when the driver hit him, then drove away.  Shortly after, police found the car and tracked down the driver, Jose Hernandez Garcia, at his house.  He later told police he left the scene because he was afraid of being deported.
