The Austin School District is still facing a big budget deficit even with millions of more dollars coming from the state. In a statement, the district says it is facing a 24 to 48 million dollar deficit next year and will have to deal with that shortfall using some district budget reserves and spending cuts. Tomorrow the district will take up the issue of closing four elementary schools because of empty seats and those budget issues.
