Some city officials call for a speed reduction on I-35.
Maybe you’re comfortable with a 70 mile per hour posted speed on the northern stretch of I-35 in Austin, but some on the Public Safety Commission are not. Preston Tyree is one of those commission members who asks, why would you need to drive 70 anywhere within the city limits.
Tyree would like an across-the-board speed limit reduction, from I-35 and Mopac, to smaller streets like Lamar. The Transportation Department says there will be talks about that in the future.
