Austin council members eye a change to parking on Second Street:
Second Street has, since 2000, been a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, where the city invests in public improvement projects, and the uses the tax generated from those projects for other projects specifically in that one. But new statewide revenue limits have the city scrambling, and council member Kathie Tovo says doing away with on-street parking could be a big assist
Annually, Austin uses about $100,000 from the general fund to invest in 2nd Street. This way, Tovo says, that money could be used for other projects.
