Austin Police say a shooting Friday morning was a drug trade gone wrong when it turned into a robbery.
APD Sergeant Tracy Gerrish told reporters there were three groups involved in the incident at a parking lot in the 11800 block of North Lamar. Through their investigation Police found, 32-year-old Joseph Anthony Aguilar Campos was shot as part of that robbery attempt and later died at the scene after the others fled.
Gerrish said they have identified most of the people who fled the scene, “And we encourage those folks to call us, we would deficiently like to interview them and get their side of the story.” APD investigators have collected interviews and found video surveillance to piece together what happened.
However, Gerrish added they are sifting through video surveillance to find who shot the gun that claimed Campos’ life.

A man was killed in a morning gunfight along Lamar just north of the Braker Lane Intersection.
Officer Bino Cadenas said APD officers were called near the area and rushed to the scene after hearing gunshots. Upon arrival officers saw a vehicle that had hit a nearby tree and a man slumped over the steering wheel. “The man was unresponsive, the officers then opened the vehicle door and saw that the male had trauma to his body.”
APD officials later identified that man as 32-year-old Joseph Anthony Aguilar Campos, and he later died at the scene after first responders attempted life saving measures. The investigation continues as cops hunt for the other shooter.
