It was Monday when Austin Chief of Police Brian Manley addressed the public about recent shootings in downtown, as well as the general rise in violent crime around that area. That followed two consecutive weekends of shootings in the Red River District, both of which led to the victims being hospitalized. Now, police are investigating another shooting on 7th Street on Tuesday night that sent two more people to the hospital.
According to police, the incident unfolded around 9:30 p.m. near 7th Street and Sabine, just one block away from Austin Police Headquarters and 8th Street and I-35. Much like the shootings in the previous two weekends, Tuesday’s shooting appears to have also been preceded by a fight, police say.
One man and one woman were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Austin Police Association president Ken Casaday took to Twitter Tuesday night to express his frustration over the continued problems officers in the downtown sector are faced with.
The Austin Police Association has been made aware of a double shooting in the downtown area on E 7th street. Two victims are in serious condition. We are truly at a loss for words to explain this mayhem.#unbelievable

As of Wednesday morning, no arrest has been made.
Despite the close proximity of the two weekend shootings to the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless, police say no one involved was actually homeless. However, the area around the ARCH remains a hotbed of multiple crimes, including drug dealing, assaults, and thefts.
