Cagle Out as Leander City Manager

Former Leander City Manager Ken Cagle

In a near-unanimous vote, the Leander City Council ousted city manager Ken Cagle, who has held that position since 2011.

The special meeting was held on Monday.  Following a two-hour session behind closed doors, the council returned to the dais where Mayor Troy Hill called for the vote.

“I’m going to make a motion that we dismiss the city manager with cause,” Hill said.

Council member Michelle Stephenson was the lone dissenting vote.

It’s still unclear specifically why Cagle was fired, but in a post on Facebook Hill indicated it was the will of the people.

“Council voted 6-1 to remove the City Manager and appoint an Interim Manager while we search. I understand this will be upsetting to some people but our council felt we needed a new direction. I wish Mr. Cagle well in his future endeavors and want to assure everyone that we will find the best candidate out there to lead this great city,” Hill wrote.

City Council voted unanimously to replace Cagle with Gordon Pierce as interim city manager. Pierce previously served as city manager in Terrell.

Assistant City Manager David Carroll will serve as the acting city manager until Pierce’s contract is finalized.
