Republican Congressman Chip Roy could have already drawn a challenger for 2021.
Democratic former State Senator Wendy Davis said at a Texas Observer fundraiser that she may plan to run for Roy’s seat. Davis became the national darling of progressives for her 2013 11-hour filibuster against abortion restrictions in the Texas Senate. She lost the gubernatorial race to Greg Abbott in 2014. Roy won his seat by less than four points in his district that runs from South Austin to San Antonio. Roy drew criticism from Democrats for single-handedly delaying a vote on a $19 billion disaster relief bill that President Trump singed yesterday.
