Next month, the Austin school board will take another look at changes to the dress code. Female students typically account for the majority of those dress code violations, and board member Amber Elenz felt many AISD staffers don’t address code violations properly, especially when it comes to the girls. She said, it is disturbing the way a child is confronted about this, calling it way too public.
Board member LaTisha Anderson said language dealing with baggy pants or hooded sweatshirts needs to be amended, because some parents just can’t afford anything else.
Others say the current code is too subjective and biased against girls.
Supporters of a strict dress code say it leads to a safer and more respectful school campus.
