GOP senators are warning the White House they are ready to stand up to President Donald Trump on the issue of tariffs.

Trump wants to impose 5{2a63e07d84fe12ceff3a79b3b7d16ceb8565bd2470b26c53e2419132d99be4c6} tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico.

He sees the tariffs as leverage to force Mexico to do more to halt illegal immigration.

But Republicans see tariffs as nothing more than taxes they oppose.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday, “There is not much support in my conference for tariffs, that’s for sure.”

The swirling controversy surrounding a repeal of Austin’s homeless ordinances prompts the city council to postpone its planned vote.

Mayor Steve Adler says he’s concerned that neither side of the debate truly understands the big picture.

Council member Greg Casar later recommended a postponement until June 20, and the council agreed.

There does appear to be growing support across the city council to repeal or amend both the panhandling and “sit-lie” portion of the ordinance.

A small, but steady revenue source for the City of Austin is now gone.

The city has officially turned off its ten red light cameras spread around several intersections.

Any tickets issued after June 1 are now considered null and void.

Last year, Austin collected more than $777,000 in fines which was used to pay for staffing, equipment, and various city projects.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has signed a bill that aims to eliminate the backlog of thousands of untested rape kits in Texas.

Abbott signed the measure in Dallas on Tuesday along with four other bills designed to help victims of sex crimes.

The new law mandates law enforcement agencies conduct an audit to determine all of the untested rape kits in the state and that officials set timelines for their analysis.

A lawsuit alleging students’ free speech is being suppressed by vague UT policies has been tossed out by a federal judge.

The group ‘Speech First’ filed the suit on behalf of three students who claim they felt uncomfortable speaking out against things like illegal immigration, abortion, or gun control because UT’s policies on verbal harassment are too broad.

The judge says the group failed to prove any student was actually hurt by any school policy.
