The Austin Fire Department, along with Austin-Travis County EMS, will officially break ground on Wednesday on the first of five new stations that were approved last year by the city council.
According to Austin Fire, groundbreaking for AFD Station #50/ATCEMS Station #36, located at 7109 Elroy Road, will take place “rain or shine.” Officials expect this station to greatly improve response times for calls in and around Del Valle — an area in which AFD says response times have climed to 19 minutes.
The five council-approved stations are on pace to be built over the course of the next six years. The estimated cost is around $60-million.
