The red light camera debate at the State Capitol pits lawmakers against the police. Reports say Governor Abbott is for legislation to end them.
State Senator Bob Hall rolled out his bill arguing that the Red Light Cameras caused accidents and are not constitutional. Local governments like the ticket revenue and police say the cameras makes their cities safer.
Police and Local Governments oppose the bill. Towfiq Khan heads up the Dallas Safelight Traffic Camera program and he said 70{a77561a3d577901ee15dca150fea59fe3467aeb2007c1dd097ee2f4c696e6096} of their red light interesections have seen reductions in all types of crashes and 86{a77561a3d577901ee15dca150fea59fe3467aeb2007c1dd097ee2f4c696e6096} have seen less of ‘right angle crashes’ that have more of a probability for a fatality.
