Austin Police are still hunting down leads after SXSW’s final days ended with an officer involved shooting and violence.
APD Chief Brian Manley said SXSW has the department putting more cops on the ground than at any other point in the year but added this year has demonstrated that’s not enough and will be holding meetings to fill in the holes.
“The bigger picture will be, looking at what else we need to do, what commonalities if any can we find.” said Manley.
While the chief explained their investigation has found no ties between the shootings and SXSW he still wants to work with the festival’s coordinators and the area venues to find out what should be done.
He said if a venue is brining in an act that draws in a violent crowd he want to work with those venues to improve safety. Or if they are unwilling, look into what if any violations the venue is committing through TABC licensing.
