In an effort to address what the city calls “institutional racism,” the Austin-Travis County Reentry Roundtable is hoping to solidify guidelines for apartment owners and managers to make it more difficult to deny a rental application based on criminal history.  The group’s Helen Gaebler says non-whites are the most affected by strict rental screenings.

Recommendations include new training for the private sector and a limitation on how many years a landlord can look back to find criminal history.
