An Austin woman claims she was the victim of an assault in downtown recently, and she says she was singled out for wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat.
In a social media post, Haley Maddox says she was out with some friends visiting an unnamed bar when other patrons began harassing them.
“All over our hats,” Maddox says. “The cops that we reported this to showed bias, in our opinion, towards us because we were Trump supporters, and insinuated that this happened because we wore those hats.”
Showing off a bruised eye, Maddox says they were attacked inside and outside of the bar.
“We asked one of the abrtenders to help us and he ended up choking out one of our friends,” she says. “We made it one block [away] and another random man came and attacked us again.”
Police are not commenting, but say a report has been filed and an investigation is underway.
