Millions in city taxes being put toward propping up Austin's music and arts scene

Struggling artists are getting some big help from the City of Austin.  Not only are musicians and venue owners eligible for up to $50,000 through Austin’s Creative Space Assistance Program to help keep the lights on, council member Ann Kitchen was recently able to win approval for a $12-million allocation toward creative space preservation.

The city will use portions of the full $12-million to mitigate the cost of land acquisition and rising rents.

Priority will be given to those with the most immediate needs.
