Teachers from all over Texas rallied at the State Capitol calling for more state funding for public schools. They want an across the board pay raise for all public school employees. Noel Candelaria of the Texas State Teachers Association was a featured speaker and he said that merit pay is not reform, calling it a way to cheat teachers out of the pay, he said they all earned.
The Texas Senate is pushing a $5-thousand dollar pay raise for just teachers and librarians.
The State House filed legislation for merit pay raises for teachers to be decided by the local school districts.
