Austin’s film industry is optimistic for a pro film incentive session at the capital building. But The Texas Public Policy Foundation is hoping for a whole lot less.
The Foundation’s Bill Peacock said if the goal for Texas Lawmakers here is economic development and keeping jobs local, there is a tried and true better way.
The Texas Motion Pictures Alliance touted for every dollar the program gave to Texas productions, it puts in more than $5 into the economy. But Peacock isn’t swayed.
Peacock said when the government decides what industry gets a buck, its a less efficient form of economic development.
The Texas house recently budgeted 22-million in film incentives, and those in the Austin film industry believe that could rise before the legislature wraps up.
