City leaders to vote spending $1.5-million to clean underpass homeless camps

Homeless camp under overpass

This is something the City of Austin really wants no part of, but the responsibility is on them to clean up underpasses now that TxDOT has said it will no longer be doing that for Austin.

Mayor Steve Adler is very concerned that the legislature’s proposed cap on local property tax revenue will make it very hard for Austin to keep its own underpasses free of debris and filth.

Adler said Austin may have to de-fund current programs to make room for this cleanup plan.  If the contract is approved, 61 underpasses will be cleaned over the next four years

The council will vote today on a $1.5-million contract to cleanup 61 underpass camps over the next four years.
