Georgetown city leaders assisting businesses affected by natural gas evacuation

Evacuation route

By unanimous vote, the Georgetown Council has made some temporary changes to assist business owners currently impacted by the ongoing natural gas evacuation around Williams Drive and River Bend.

City manager David Morgan said they need to make sure these businesses stay afloat as the evacuation continues.

67 businesses are still under evacuation in Georgetown because of a natural gas leak from February 20.  Now the city council has stepped in to help by letting those businesses put up temporary signs and banners without having to pay for sign permit fees through September 30.

Council member Valerie Nicholson said this should help facilitate communication for customers.

There is still no word from Atmos Energy on when the evacuation will be lifted.
