Austin City Council to consider new dockless scooter rules

Dockless scooters

This week Austin City Council will take up new rules for those dockless electric scooters.

The proposed regulations would give clearer guidance on where scooters are allowed or in other cases prohibited. Jason Redfern with the city’s Transportation Department said, right now there is no kinds of signage on public right-of-ways. If the regulations are approved, that would change. “Were going to put down legends, pavement marking that show that this is a special zone.”

Redfern said scooter providers will be asked to give their riders, city scooter regs and info through their app.

A city-wide dockless summit is being proposed in May.
