UPDATE: Arrest made in South Austin weekend murder

One woman has been arrested in the murder of a South Austin man. APD said the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested Jessica Romero,37, and was one of three people who broke into a home near the Galindo Elementry School demanding valuables. A fight broke out which led to the beating death of Benito Vargas, 33. Another victim survived and worked with investigators. Police are still on the hunt for two other suspects. They are described as a heavyset Hispanic female in her late 20s to 30s and the other a heavyset Hispanic male in his late 40s to 50s.

One man is dead and another in the hospital after an overnight street fight. Austin Police Officer Christopher Irwin said they were called to a home near the Galindo Elementary School in South Austin and found two men on the ground beaten.

Both were rushed to area hospitals, but one died at the hospital due to, “traumatic injuries.” 

Irwin said the surviving man is working with investigators and they are looking for multiple suspects in the case. 

Investigators don’t believe there is any further danger to the public.
