In a 7-0 vote, the city council has given its blessing to what will be known as The District, a 65-acre development north of Greenlawn Boulevard near SH 45 and I-35.
The city said it will include residential and office space, retail shops, parking, and a hotel, and over the next 20 years more than $200-million will be invested by the developer as it grows to around 1-million square feet. Meantime, the city will invest just under $13-million for roads and water.
Tax revenue estimates are more than $1.5-million, and a few thousand jobs are also expected to be created. The first of its buildings may be up by 2022.
5000 new jobs are expected to be created in Round Rock thanks to a new mixed-use development in the works known as The District. Assistant City Manager Brooks Bennett said it will be a major economic boost in the coming years.
Bennett said it will take about three years for the first phase to open. The entire development will span 1-million square feet within 20-years.
