Some in the Travis County Tax Appraisal District office are waging war against tax agents and now they’re being sued for it.That’s according to attorney Bill Aleshire who represents some local tax advisors and a sizeable number of residents whose tax protests were dismissed without a hearing. He said there is a provision in the Texas tax code that allows property owners, who’ve been denied a hearing on there appraisal protest to go to court and ask them to order the appraisal review board to give them a hearing.
The suit says Chief Appraiser Marya Crigler abused her authority by scheduling hearings when the Appraisal review board is supposed to that. It calls for Crigler to stop scheduling tax protest hearings and for an open meetings act violation by the board itself.
Aleshire said the Appraisal district won’t release requested information because they think they’ll get sued further.
