Austin Independent School District trustees vote in favor of changing the name of Fulmore Middle School.
In a 6-1-1 vote, trustees have chosen the name Sarah Beth Lively Middle School after a former educator who taught social studies on the campus for more than 25 years.
The name change will take effect at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.
Since the debate began over Confederate namesakes, two other AISD schools have also been changed changed: Robert E. Lee Elementary and Allan Elementary.
It’s expected that the AISD board will vote on changing the name of John H. Reagan High School sometime early next year.
