The Austin City Council has been criticized numerous times for the length of its meetings. City staff has proposed that the council find ways to better prioritize things before the meeting begins on Thursday mornings. Council member Alison Alter thinks a time limit on when new amendments can be submitted would help speed things up.
Other ideas include setting aside specific days for public hearings, electronic voting from the dais, and actually starting the meetings at 10:00 a.m. sharp, which is rare.
