If a new pet is at the top of your wish list this year, the Austin Animal Center can help. The shelter will waive adoption fees December 15 and 16 for their Home for the Pawlidays adoption event, making it easy to save a life this holiday season. All animals currently living at the shelter will be eligible for waived fee adoptions.
In addition, visitors on Saturday can make toys and beds for the shelter pets between 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday, Santa will be taking photos with adopters from 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Lost animals continue to pour into AAC, making the need for Christmas miracle adopters greater than ever. Currently there are nearly 1,200 animals being cared for by the municipal shelter with more coming in every day. Thirty four medium and large dogs are being kept in pop up crates or in non-public areas, because the shelter is simply out of open kennels, and has been for months. That’s why adopters are so desperately needed.
“Our wish is to get as many animals in a home for the holidays as possible. The shelter is no place to wake up on Christmas morning”, said Jennifer Olohan, Communications and Media Manager for AAC.
The holidays can be a wonderful time to adopt, as people tend to have extra time off work—time that can be used to bond with a new pet. If you can’t adopt, the shelter is always in need of fosters, too. You can apply on their website, austinanimalcenter.org, or simply visit the shelter to speak with a foster coordinator.
Austin Animal Center is located at 7201 Levander Loop, and open every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. For more information visit www.austinanimalcenter.org.
