Specifically when it comes to the speed in which you can drive through neighborhoods. Jay Blazek Crossley with the Pedestrian Advisory Council said state law should mandate no more than 20-miles-per-hour to protect children.
Studies have shown that children are seven-times more likely to be hospitalized on a street with a 30-mile-per-hour limit. On the local level, Crossley has recommended a re-tooling of wider neighborhood streets he says encourage drivers to go faster.
The proposal there is to reduce that width in order to funnel drivers down to lower speeds.
