Voters recently approved $250-million for low-income housing in Austin, and groups like the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition continue to push for as much that as possible to be put toward getting the homeless off the street. ECHO’s last official count of Austin’s homeless population found 2147 people living on the street, many of whom are not staying in area shelters.
